01What makes pool decking different
A pool surround is exposed to water, sun, bare feet and cleaning chemicals more often than a standard backyard deck. The surface should be comfortable to walk on, easy to rinse down and detailed so water can move away from the pool edge instead of sitting against boards or trims.
- Wet traffic is normal, not occasional.
- Light reflection can make colours look brighter than indoor samples.
- Pool edges, steps and skimmer boxes need early trim planning.
02Colour and heat planning
Darker outdoor surfaces absorb more heat. For north-facing or full-sun pool areas, start with lighter WoodEver finishes such as Natural Oak, Blackbutt or Silver Grey before considering deeper tones.
- View samples at midday and late afternoon.
- Check colour beside coping, paving and fence colours.
- Use darker tones as borders or feature zones if heat is a concern.
03Details to confirm before a quote
A useful pool decking quote should include board direction, pool edge treatment, stair or step details, access panels, drainage gaps, fascia and any transition to paving or lawn.
- Measure finished deck zones separately.
- Mark pool edge, drain and inspection access locations.
- Include starter clips, edge trim and fascia in the takeoff.
